Hybrid: Portland, OR (8am-5pm M-F)

  • Technical expertise in Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
  • Knowledge of utility customer programs.
  • Experience in utility financial tracking and budget management.
Position Summary/Purpose:
As the Smart Grid Test Bed Project Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end delivery of smart grid projects and support ongoing DOE grant work. You will coordinate with the team lead and report to the hiring manager. Your role involves managing project scope, schedule, budget, and risk, while also ensuring effective communication and stakeholder management.

Top Priorities
First Few Weeks/Months: Rapidly understand key project partners and vendors.
Begin leading formal project management tasks in coordination with the team lead.
Biggest Challenge: Quickly integrate into ongoing projects and Client’s software systems.

Team Structure: 1 Portfolio Manager, 2 Technical Program Managers (Team Leads), 3 Project Coordinators, 1 Engineer, 1 Intern; team collaborates closely with partners from national DOE labs and local government agencies/non-profits.
The Smart Grid Test Bed team is dedicated to advancing innovative field demonstrations through multiple projects supported by an $11M Department of Energy (DOE) grant. The team focuses on technology R&D, field installation, and customer programs. Current initiatives include smart solar, managed EV charging, DER management, smart thermostats, and battery technologies.
Interaction and Collaboration
Internal:
 Lead and facilitate projects, taking direction from the team lead.
Report to the hiring manager. Coordinate with internal team members for action items and project deliverables.
External:
Engage with vendors, project partners, and stakeholders.
Travel to vendor offices and field sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Project Delivery:
  • Manage and deliver specific Smart Grid Test Bed projects.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and risk management.
  1. Project Support:
  • Track and document project progress in SharePoint.
  • Create reports and write-ups for meetings and organizations.
  • Follow up with project partners on pending or overdue items.
  • Manage organization and upload documents to SharePoint.
  • Take detailed notes for meetings, including attendance.
  • Coordinate meeting schedules and invitations for internal and external stakeholders.
  1. Stakeholder Communication:
  • Develop and review key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Report project status to PGE senior leadership.
  • Develop presentations and written communications.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor contracts.
  • Review project financials and resources.
  • Mitigate project risks and issues.

Qualifications:
Strong understanding of transmission design and construction; bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Project; Strong writing skills.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred, but not required.
Experience: Years of Experience: 5-10 years in project management, particularly in utility or related fields.
