Role: Payroll Specialist Duration: 5 Months (Contract) W2 (with possibility of extension) Location: Portland, OR Hybrid preferred (Remote acceptable)
Job Description: The Payroll Specialist will provide critical support to the Payroll Team during the year-end period and assist in processing bi-weekly payroll. This role will support payroll processing, complex calculations, amendments, terminations, and other payroll-related tasks. The position will also assist with year-end activities, including bonus testing/processing, wage and tax adjustments, W-2 preparations, and more. The Payroll Specialist will report to the Payroll Supervisor and will have daily interactions with the payroll team and weekly check-ins with the hiring manager.

Workday: HR system used for employee data and payroll-related information.
ADP EV6: Payroll processing software.
Workforce Software: Time and attendance tracking system.
Competencies & Knowledge:
Payroll Knowledge: Working knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws, employment laws, wage and hour laws.
System Proficiency: Experience working with payroll systems and tools.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse payroll data, identify discrepancies, and suggest improvements.
Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive employee data with discretion and in compliance with company policies.
Preferred skills: Must-Haves: 2+ years of payroll experience, attention to detail, strong communication skills. Nice-to-Haves: Positive attitude, quick learner, willingness to work overtime during peak periods.
Job Duties: Payroll Processing: Perform routine and complex payroll calculations, including processing amendments, terminations, leave adjustments, and complex calculations for employees. System & Vendor Management: Assist with the use of payroll systems such as Workday, ADP EV6, and Workforce Software to ensure data integrity and timely payroll processing. Year-End Support: Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2 preparation, wage and tax adjustments, and bonus processing. Compliance & Accuracy: Ensure payroll is in compliance with federal and state laws. Regularly audit payroll data to confirm accuracy and efficiency. Employee Support: Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding payroll-related inquiries and troubleshooting. Data Entry & Reporting: Perform routine data entry, analysis, and reporting on payroll activities to ensure proper documentation and processing. Collaboration: Work closely with the payroll supervisor, team members, and external vendors to resolve payroll issues and system discrepancies.
Education Requirements (Experience in Lieu of Degree): Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. CertificationsRequirements Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or equivalent certifications are preferred. Experience Requirements Typically 2+ years of experience in payroll processing or a related field.
Additional Information: Manager Interaction: Routine interaction with the Payroll Supervisor and team members. Weekly interaction with the hiring manager for updates and support. Team Size: The payroll team consists of 1 supervisor and 2 specialists, with this position augmenting the team during the short-term period to assist with payroll and year-end activities.
