Position Overview:
Client is seeking an experienced contractor to support the library’s compliance with Colorado’s new Digital Accessibility legislation and its related updates. This position will involve leading a comprehensive program to ensure digital accessibility across the organization. The contractor will collaborate with multiple teams including Technology and Innovation, Communication and Engagement, Public Services, and Training, to drive efforts toward compliance and continuous improvement. The contractor will also provide strategic recommendations and implement solutions that ensure accessible digital content and services for all users.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Management & Strategy:
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of a comprehensive Digital Accessibility Program in alignment with Colorado’s Digital Accessibility legislation.
    • Define and outline key activities, milestones, and timelines for compliance.
    • Work cross-functionally with teams from Technology and Innovation, Communication and Engagement, Public Services, and Training to ensure seamless execution of the program.
    • Provide strategic guidance on achieving and maintaining digital accessibility compliance.
  • Assessment & Remediation:
    • Conduct comprehensive digital accessibility assessments across JCPL’s web platforms and digital services.
    • Lead the creation of detailed remediation plans and assist with tracking progress on identified issues.
    • Develop and execute strategies for ongoing accessibility improvements, ensuring long-term compliance and user accessibility.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing:
    • Deliver digital accessibility training to internal teams to raise awareness and improve overall accessibility standards across departments.
    • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accessibility best practices are implemented in all digital content creation and communication.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all digital accessibility initiatives and communicate progress with internal teams and leadership.
    • Lead regular meetings to review the status of digital accessibility initiatives, risks, and remediation efforts.
    • Collaborate with the Technology and Innovation team to support the technology implementation and governance of accessibility tools.
  • Compliance & Monitoring:
    • Provide ongoing support and recommendations for monitoring and reporting on compliance efforts.
    • Develop governance structures and processes to ensure continuous alignment with the Digital Accessibility legislation.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • BA or BS degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Proven experience managing content and users in a Content Management System (CMS), with a strong understanding of organizational content management practices.
    • Expertise in writing requirements for content-related projects, including accessibility standards and tool implementation.
    • Demonstrated experience in conducting accessibility assessments and creating effective remediation strategies.
    • Knowledge of Digital Accessibility standards, including WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and the Colorado Digital Accessibility Law.
    • Proficiency in SEO best practices, including keyword placement, content strategy, and analytics.
    • Solid social media management experience and a general understanding of how content can be optimized for accessibility on various platforms.
  • Specialized Experience:
    • Proven experience creating and facilitating digital accessibility training programs for internal teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement technology solutions for accessibility.
    • Strong experience in governance, compliance tracking, and ongoing monitoring for accessibility efforts.
