Job Title: WordPress Developer - PHP

Duration: 2-3 months (W2-contract)

Location: Salem, Oregon (100 miles)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced WordPress contractor to manage a critical update and ongoing support for the client's website. This project involves a server OS upgrade, updates to the WordPress core and plugins, content and branding changes, and providing comprehensive technical support to the client's team.

Key Responsibilities

WordPress & Server Maintenance:

  • Perform quality assurance (QA), testing, and issue resolution related to the web server's OS upgrade (Ubuntu 18.04 to 22.04).
  • Update the WordPress core and all plugins to their latest stable versions.
  • Identify and remove any unnecessary or unused plugins.
  • Website Updates & Feature Support:
  • Conduct global content and branding updates, including replacing logos and updating text across the site.
  • Update website navigation menus as specified (e.g., "Strategy Habitats" to "Key Habitats").
  • Support and test the "Download Chapters" PDF feature, ensuring it functions correctly and the new PDF is ADA compliant.
  • Advise client on the PDF feature's capabilities.
  • Content Management & Launch:
  • Develop and document a recommended process for efficient batch content updates from source files (e.g., Excel).
  • Manage the launch of the updated sandbox website, conducting extensive QA to ensure all pages display properly.

Project Management & Technical Support:

  • Meet with the client's team at least monthly to discuss project status, address questions, and resolve roadblocks.
  • Provide weekly status updates via email.
  • Offer ongoing technical support and troubleshooting to the client throughout the contract period.
  • Support client's staff by answering questions on the WordPress editor's capabilities and limitations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a WordPress Developer.
  • Strong understanding of WordPress core, plugin management, and theme customization.
  • Experience with website testing, QA, and troubleshooting after server or software updates.
  • Familiarity with content updates, branding implementation, and navigation menu management.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance standards for web content, particularly PDFs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates and technical support to a non-technical team.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
